Photographic Artistry Award

The ASP Photographic Artistry Award recognizes and celebrates the remarkable imagery created by members of the American Society of Photographers. This distinction is awarded to those who demonstrate consistent excellence and creative achievement through a range of ASP image competitions. To qualify, members must accumulate a minimum of 30 image points, with at least 16 earned from Round 2 of the ASP Images of Distinction competition. Points may also be collected from the ASP State Elite Award, District Medallion Award, and the Gold, Silver, and Bronze Medallion Awards. Upon receiving the initial Photographic Artistry Award, members may continue to earn distinction through Photographic Artistry Bars. Each bar is awarded for an additional 30 image points, with a minimum of 16 points again required from the Images of Distinction competition.

  • Emerald Bar: +30 points beyond the initial award
  • Ruby Bar: +60 points beyond the initial award
  • Sapphire Bar: +90 points beyond the initial award

Each bar reflects an ongoing pursuit of artistic mastery, honoring members whose dedication to excellence continues to elevate the standard of professional photography.

ASP PHOTOGRAPHIC ARTISTRY AWARD POINT SYSTEM

To achieve the ASP Photographic Artistry Award members must accumulate a minimum of 30 image points from the ASP Images of Distinction (IOD) Round 2 competition, the ASP State Elite Award, the ASP District Medallion Award and the ASP Gold, Silver and Bronze Medallion Awards. A minimum of 16 points must be from the IOD competition.

The Photographic Artistry Award Committee will record the points earned each year, beginning with IOD in 2021. Points from 2021 to 2023 are grandfathered into the old points system. Points from 2024 and going forward will use the following rules.

ARTISTRY POINTS FROM IMAGES OF DISTINCTION

Artistry points can be earned in Round 2 of IOD and through the State Elite Award, the ASP District Medallion Award and the ASP Gold, Silver and Bronze Medallion Awards. A member can receive a maximum combined total of 12 points in one year from any of the eligible sources. Only 6 of those 12 points may be from non-IOD sources.

IMAGES OF DISTINCTION SCORING

In a given year, an ASP member’s four (4) highest scoring images that receive a score of 80 or higher in the IOD Round 2 competition will be counted toward the points required to achieve the Photographic Medallion.
